The National Park of Parnitha

The National Park of Parnitha with an extent of 38.000 acres was founded in 1961 in the mountain of Parnitha and until the recent fire was the lung of Attica. Its flora was impressively rich since it was constituted from more than 1.000 vegetable species, number which represents the 1/7 of species of the Greek flora. The fauna was also impressive since in the park lived 42 from 116 species of mammals of our country, 132 species of endemic birds, 22 species of reptiles, 8 species of amphibians and a large number of invertebrates.

Unfortunately, the fire caused an incalculable ecological damage.

Aim of the Municipal Authority is to contribute with all its efforts to the re-establishment of the natural landscape in order Parnitha to become again as soon as possible AtticaΆs lung.
